Our 6th Graders’ Food Fight for Federal Workers

December 1, 2025

Our 6th graders kicked off a spirited “food fight” of generosity, launching a school-wide food drive to support local families of federal workers affected by the recent government shutdown. Partnering with the Keaukaha Military Reserve, Hawaiʻi Food Bank, and Triple F, the students rallied classmates from PreK through 6th grade to see who could collect the most donations. The Keaukaha Military Reserve joined the fun by matching every contribution can for can and bag for bag, while Triple F generously donated all the bags needed for distribution. On Wednesday, November 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Keaukaha Military Reserve, students and partners distributed Thanksgiving Food Boxes filled with canned gods, dry goods, fresh produce, and frozen turkeys. More than 45 families—over 200 individuals—benefited from this effort. Pacific Media Group was also on-site to share the event through a special radio broadcast segment, shining a light on how our students are helping federal workers enjoy a brighter, more hopeful holiday season.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Okabayashi for guiding our students and living out our school’s mission by helping them grow into compassionate leaders dedicated to serving others.
