Big Island Youth Day 2026: Rooted in Christ, Growing in Love, United in Faith
February 23, 2026
Big Island Youth Day (BIYD) is a powerful opportunity for young people to rediscover their faith, build meaningful relationships, and experience the peace and joy of Christ’s presence by stepping away from the distractions of everyday life. This year’s theme, “Rooted in Christ, Growing in Love, United in Faith,” invited youth to know Christ more deeply, show His love through their actions, and grow together as one Body in faith.

Open to youth throughout the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, BIYD is primarily geared toward Hawaiʻi Island students in grades 6–12. The event brought together young people from across the state for a day of prayer, fellowship, learning, and joyful celebration of their Catholic identity.

This year, St. Joseph School had the honor of hosting the event, welcoming students from various parishes and schools, including 15 students who traveled from Molokaʻi. Throughout the day, participants engaged in faith-filled activities, shared in fellowship, and strengthened bonds with one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

We were especially blessed by the presence of Larry Silva, whose time and encouragement meant so much to our youth. His support and leadership continue to inspire young people across the islands.
A heartfelt mahalo to Lisa Gomes for her dedication and vision in bringing Big Island Youth Day to St. Joseph School. Her efforts helped create a meaningful and memorable experience for all who attended.
Big Island Youth Day remains a beautiful reminder that when our youth are rooted in Christ, they continue to grow in love and stand united in faith.
