Food Fight for Hunger a Huge Success at St. Joseph School
May 18, 2026
This past Saturday, the St. Joseph School cafeteria was filled with laughter, teamwork, and community spirit during the “Food Fight for Hunger” fundraiser benefiting The Hilo Food Pantry, Hope Services, and Salvation Army.

The event brought together all three Hilo district Rotary Clubs, St. Joseph School Interact Club, and the University of Hawaiʻi Rotaract Club for an afternoon dedicated to serving the community while having fun for a meaningful cause. Participants enjoyed food-themed games, hotdogs, popcorn, carnival-style snacks, and an exciting pie-throwing contest that quickly became one of the highlights of the day.

A special mahalo goes out to St. Joseph students Nicolas and Treyson, who generously volunteered to have pies thrown at them to help raise money for charity. Their enthusiasm and willingness to participate brought smiles and laughter to everyone in attendance.
St. Joseph School students played a major role in the success of the fundraiser. Students designed and created all of the decorations, transformed the cafeteria into a festive carnival atmosphere, and operated the games throughout the event. Their hard work, creativity, and positive energy helped make the day both welcoming and memorable for the community.

The fundraiser far exceeded expectations, more than doubling its original fundraising goal of $6,000. The overwhelming support from the community demonstrated the generosity and compassion of East Hawaiʻi and the power of young people working together in service to others.
The Rotary Clubs, Rotaract members, Interact students, volunteers, families, and community supporters all helped make Food Fight for Hunger an incredible success. The event served as a joyful reminder that service, fellowship, and fun can come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
