Alumni Spotlight: Class of 2009

June 1, 2026

As a proud St. Joseph School (SJS) lifer for 14 years and a member of the Class of 2009, I am deeply grateful for the education and experiences that shaped my journey. The dedicated faculty and staff at SJS nurtured me both spiritually and academically, providing a strong foundation that enabled me to pursue my undergraduate studies in San Francisco and later earn my graduate degrees from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

During my time at SJS, I was blessed with opportunities that broadened my horizons and strengthened my leadership skills. Some of my most memorable experiences included marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the band and representing our school at leadership conferences as Student Council President. These moments not only enriched my education but also instilled confidence and a sense of service that continue to guide me today.

The lessons learned at SJS extend far beyond the classroom. Simple yet meaningful habits—such as pushing in my chair, showing respect for others, and writing thank-you notes to clinical preceptors after rotations—remain part of my daily life as a healthcare professional. These values, woven into every stage of my SJS education, have become an enduring part of my character.

Most recently, I achieved a significant milestone by earning my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. With this accomplishment, I hope to return home and provide primary care services to the growing community of Hilo, giving back to the place that has given so much to me.

I am forever thankful to the faculty, staff, friends, and classmates who became like family throughout my years at SJS. Their support, encouragement, and example have played an important role in my personal and professional success.

Go Cardinals!
